Description
The Barred Owl is commonly found in oak woodlands of Eastern North America, and has recently inhabited the Pacific Northwest and California. It has a highly distinctive call that sounds like "Who cooks for you; who cooks for you all." They are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and begin hunting rodents at dusk. They range from 16-25 inches in length and 17-37 ounces. The oldest owl found was at least 24 years old.
Their conservation status is of least concern.
