This is a Timber Rattlesnake, also known as a Canebrake Rattlesnake or a Banded Rattlesnake.
They are found it the Eastern United States spreading as far west as the middle of Texas, as far south as northern Florida, and as far north as the southern parts of New Hampshire and Minnesota.
It is the most dangerous snake in the USA due to it's large fangs, impressive size and and high amounts of venom, but it has a very mild manner and will warn with his rattle for quite a while before attacking.
It's the snake found on the "Don't tread on me" flags, being a symbol of the American Revolution, and since 2008, has been the State Reptile of West Virginia.
