Leopard Lily

Description

My little sister and I went hiking up at Shasta Lake yesterday to escape our father and the Ninjababies back at the boat.  While I was focusing on a different flower and not falling in to the water with my camera, my sister pointed this one out to me.  I snapped a few photos of it and it turns out that the ones I took to humor my sister turned out better than the other ones.

The Leopard Lily is also known as the Panther Lily, native to California and Oregon.  The plants typically grow 6.6 feet tall, but the tallest ones can grow to 8.2 feet tall.

Ah, I remember thee flowers well. We used to spend a week up a Buck's Lake every summer when I was a kid, and these grew along the streams and in the moist places around there. We used to call them Tiger Lilies, although they aren't striped, obviously. Nice shot!
