Description

I found this creepy crawler on my tomato plant today.

Entered in to "A Tale of Two Cities" because while it's great for the cocoons to use the worm's body to live, the worm will die from the cocoons.

:pointr: Did you know?:pointl:
:bulletblack: This is a Manduca Sexta, commonly known as the tobacco moth and the goliath worm, not to be confused with the very similar tomato hornworm.
:bulletblack: The white things growing on its back are actually parasitoid wasp cocoons (Contesia Congregata.)
:bulletblack: The cocoons will prevent the host from cocooning and it will grow to be huge and just wander until it's hitch-hikers inevitably kill it.
:bulletblack: The cocoons secrete a virus into the host's body that affect the nervous system.
