Description

There are six species of flamingos, this particular fellow is an American Flamingo, or Phoenicopterus ruber.  This is the only species that naturally inhabits North America.  Both parents of an egg care for the hatched baby for six years, which is when they reach sexual maturity.  They live for 40 years.  Full grown males usually weigh 6.2 pounds and females weigh around 4.9 pounds.
